Constipation problem

Constipation problem

I have a constipation problem.

Constipation (obstipation) is a disease where there are less than two stools per week, emptying the anus is associated with the use of excessive pressure of the abdominal press (i.e. the involvement of the abdominal muscles associated with painstaent breathing), and the result after emptying the anus is a very stiff stool. Subsequently, a feeling of imperfect emptying of the rectum may occur. Constipation is more common in women, and with increasing age the frequency of its occurrence increases.

What is the cause

Constipation can occur as a separate disease or it can be a manifestation of another disease. Constipation arises as a result of long-term poor eating habits, reduced fluid intake – often with a lack of exercise. Another cause may be bowel and rectum diseases, including tumors. It may also be the result of functional pelvic floor failure.

How the problem is diagnosed

Less than two stools a week, flatulence, abdominal cramps, abdominal pressure, full abdominal sensation, pressure in the rectum.

How the problem is treated

Part of the investigation process is examination by a proctologist, which is often supplemented by some imaging method (ultrasound, intestinal motility assessment of so-called transit time, anorexic manometry, magnetic resonance imaging, defecogram). Treatment is in most cases inoperative, only a low percentage of patients require surgery.
